OSDU® Forum Liaison Outreach

New liaisons named and the benefits from connecting with other organizations

To effectively develop OSDU Forum work products and standards, The Open Group OSDU Forum needs to communicate with various peer organizations to ensure that our efforts align with broader industry activity.  The OSDU Forum facilitates this uniformity through The Open Group Liaison Agreements with other Standards Development Organizations, Consortia, and Industry / Professional bodies for the mutual benefit of all.

Promoting a greater good

Many groups have already established standards and best practices for the space that the OSDU Forum operates within, and it is mutually beneficial to use these and ensure alignment with the work of other groups.  Similarly, OSDU Forum wants to ensure that adoption of OSDU standards and best practices by other groups.  The liaison representatives play a critical role to ensure strong communication channels exist to make this happen.

Channel for consensus

OSDU Forum Liaison representatives are drawn from the OSDU Members and serve an unlimited term.  Their mandate is to convey the consensus-based OSDU work products to the liaised organization.

Some tasks include:

  • Attend relevant meeting and gather / share information relevant to the liaison relationship
  • Understand any concerns between the liaison groups and help to facilitate solutions
  • Assist with preparation of liaison statements to communicate OSDU Forum consensus, direct statements appropriately and in a timely fashion.
  • Generating reports to share back with the OSDU Forum

It is important to note that the liaison representatives do not have an executive authority to make commitments on behalf of the Open Group nor to direct its staff.

The Open Group has additional information available on the Liaison Program.
