Trademark Usage Guidelines

Proper use of the Trademarks reinforces their role as brands and helps prevent them from becoming generic names that can be used by anyone.

Trademarks are not nouns and may not be used as a generic term. Trademarks are adjectives used to modify nouns; the noun is the generic name of a product or service. The first time it appears, and as is reasonable after that, the Trademark should be followed by the common generic (the dictionary name) term of the product.

Conformance Program

The OSDU Forum is actively developing a conformance program, under which products may be certified as conforming to the OSDU Technical Standard. When this conformance program is launched, the applicable OSDU Trademark(s) under the Trade Mark License Agreement (TMLA) may only be used in connection with products certified under the conformance program. Until that time, NO USE may be made of the OSDU Trademark(s) on or in connection with your product, EXCEPT THAT it is acceptable to use the following:

My product is developed in alignment with the emerging requirements of the OSDU® Technical Standard, Version 1.0.

The initial conformance program for the OSDU Technical Standard, Version 1.0 will only cover Platform Provider Certification. After the certification program is launched, a Platform Provider must certify in order to make any claims or use the Trademark(s).

  • Certified Providers will be called an OSDU Certified Platform Provider
  • Platform Provider must be on the Certification Register to make claim
  • For version 1.0, Application and External Data Providers will still only be allowed to use the alignment statement in any advertising/marketing collateral
